What???
I have enjoyed working with the google presentation this week. We had an over view of the program during class, but this week I have really had the hands on experience that helped me appreciate the benefit of using google.
In putting together our "school rules" we had to work together, without the use of email or phone. (--with our only communication through google presentation). It was a bit difficult to be able to communicate with the other team members, because they didn't remember the "post notes" option on the side of the page, this I found difficult. However, by seeing everyone put their slides together, and seeing the changes up dated on google presentation, I was able to adapt my presentation to meet theirs, so our final slide show of rules seemed to mesh perfectly. This was a good experience.
So What??
In working with google presentation this week I was able to learn the skills I needed in another class, in order to complete an assignment. It was awesome--I had previously put together a illustrator report (the week before), and had just typed the report and copied, and cut (with scissors) and taped the art to my report, it looked alright. This would be the way I have put together projects up to this point of my life (43 yrs). After learning and working with google docs and also the google presentation, I was able to use these new skills, and put together another illustrator report this morning, quickly using images I downloaded from google image search, and place them directly into my report. IT WAS AWESOME!! and it looked so good, and gave my report a totally professional look. I am so glad I have learned to use these tools. I will definitely use these in the classroom, and as I continue my education in the professional program this coming fall.
Now What?
As a teacher I will definitely be helping my students learn how to use these wonderful tools. I think it's awesome that they are free to use, and a person just needs to know how to get into the program, and get started, and google prompts can show you what to do from there. I feel it's important for students to know what is available to them, because all of these tools will help them get better grades, perform better in class, and be able to present organized professional work. What a great time to live, and be able to take advantage of the technology we have at our finger tips, now we just need to put the knowledge to use!
